A house in the Mountain Shadows subdivision in East Brainerd suffered heavy fire damage late Monday night. The homeowner reported she had a fire going in her fireplace in the family room. Ambers sparked onto an area rug which caught fire. She decided to drag the rug out of the house, which spread fire throughout the home.
She housed several stray animals, which stayed in her basement. She was able to rescue two animals, but six others perished in the fire.
She was insured and will be staying with family.
The homeowner called 911 reporting his house was on fire at 320 Shadow Parkway.
Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department arrived on the scene reporting 50 percent of the house was fully involved with fire.
Assistant Chief, Danny Hague said, "Firefighters conducted a defensive attack on the fire once they confirmed everyone was out of the house."
No injuries were reported, but Hamilton County EMS was on the scene for any potential injuries.
Assistant Chief Hague reported damages are estimated at $350,000.
Bradley County Fire Rescue and Highway 58 Volunteer Fire Department were on stand-by for Tri-Community VFD for any additional assistance needed on the scene and to cover Tri-Community's district for any additional emergencies.
