A friend and I had lunch at the restaurant area of the new Earth Fare, 1814 Gunbarrel Road, in the Target/Kohl’s complex.
Wayne and I had already been there for a bit of grocery shopping and I was very impressed with their selections and prices. I found the prices to be a bit less than the “competitor”.
We purchased two bison ribeyes, which were absolutely delicious – and extremely tender. The produce looked great and you should have seen the size of the pomegranates!
Each day there are four soups, along with a large salad bar/hot bar. You pay $6.99 per pound for the food bar. Soups come in several sizes.
The first day I tried the Chicken Cauliflower soup and got a mixed plate from the food bar. I tried egg salad, chicken salad and a few other items (a teaspoon of this, a teaspoon of that). The mashed potatoes were delicious.
I have since stopped by on two other occasions and gotten soup to carry out – a Coconut Chicken and Cream of Mushroom.
The Chicken Cauliflower is by far my favorite. It was very smooth and creamy and the chicken was tender. I liked everything about it. The Cream of Mushroom was my least favorite. The creaminess was unusual; almost as if it were made with instant potatoes to appear creamy – I don’t know, just something odd about it that I didn’t care for. The Coconut Chicken soup smelled wonderful and tasted almost as good. It seemed a bit greasy, but I enjoyed the taste with the different vegetables.
Each visit I have tried the egg salad and chicken salad, and each time they are a bit different. It appears they change things around daily, so there is always something new on the bar. One day most of the hot bar items tended to be Indian – and you could definitely smell the curry.
In addition to the help-yourself-food-area, you can order pre-prepared salads by the pound, as well as some great looking desserts. The desserts are a bit pricey, but I’m sure they are very good – at least the Chocolate Pots de Crème was. Also in this same area are sushi and a juice bar. They were giving out samples of Granny Smith Apple Juice on one of my visits. No preservatives or additives – you could watch her squeeze the juice from the apple right there and know that nothing else was in it.
I feel Earth Fare is going to be getting quite a bit of business from me, and I notice they seem to be doing quite a lunch business from local workers.
Hours for Earth Fare are Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. and on Sunday from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Check them out and welcome them to Chattanooga!
