An 18-year-old was killed and his parents were airlifted to Erlanger Hospital in a head-on crash in McMinn County on Saturday afternoon.
The driver of the other vehicle, Charles Blankinship of Cleveland, Tn., was also airlifted after the 3:45 p.m. wreck on Bowater Road (Highway 163).
Killed was James Johnson Jr. Critically hurt were his parents, James Johnson, 47, and Grace Johnson, 52.
The younger Johnson was deceased by the time he was taken to an Athens hospital.
James Johnson Sr. works in the plant engineering department at McKee Foods, and Grace Johnson is a realtor. The Johnsons live at Decatur, Tn.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol said the younger Johnson was driving a 2001 Infiniti headed westbound. Mr. Blankinship was driving a Ford pickup truck headed eastbound.
The patrol said the Infiniti crossed the centerline and struck the pickup truck head-on.
All those involved in the wreck were wearing seat belts and there is no indication that alcohol or drugs were involved, the patrol said.
