Richey Sparks Ooltewah To Blowout Over Temple

Owls Have Five In Double Figures To Lead 87-49 Win

The Ooltewah Owls got off to a slow start Monday night against the visiting Temple Academy Crusaders, but once the Owls started clicking, it was all over.

Scoring a whopping 37 points in the second quarter alone, the Owls improved to 13-5 with the 87-49 non-district victory.

Wesley Richey, who led all scorers with 28 points, scored half of them in that second stanza when Ooltewah extended a 17-12 lead to 54-26 at intermission.

"We picked up the intensity in the second quarter and the shots started falling," explained Ooltewah coach Jesse Nayadley.

"We just sort of went through the motions in the first quarter," he added.

The Owls extended their lead to 80-34 when the third quarter ended.

While Richey set the pace with 28 points, Decorious Hixson was next with 15.

Tyler Whitman and Mikhail Creech both finished with 12 points while Jervon Johnson was also in double figures for the Owls with 10 points.

Justin Ragsdale scored 15 points to spark Temple's effort while Jaqueze Robinson was next with 14.

Ooltewah returns to action Tuesday night with a critical District 5-AAA game in Evensville against Rhea County.

Mark Phillips, 54, was the victim in a fatal Hixson Pike wreck on Saturday afternoon.
