A new poll released today gives Fourth Congressional District Republican nominee Dr. Scott DesJarlais a five-point lead over Democrat incumbent Lincoln Davis, the state Republican Party said.
The poll by Public Opinion Strategies put DesJarlais at 45 percent and Davis at 40 percent.
Chris Devaney, state GOP chairman, said, "Dr. DesJarlais has been steadily gaining momentum over the last few weeks and is now pulling ahead of the congressman.
"This poll demonstrates that the despicable attacks employed by Congressman Davis are being rejected by voters in the Fourth. Lincoln Davis knows he can't run on his dismal record of supporting Speaker Pelosi, voting in favor of the Obama 'stimulus', and helping to pass Obama's budget chock full of tax increases. That's why he's resorted to a desperate, personal smear campaign based on falsehoods and deception.
"Dr. Scott DesJarlais is talking about the issues and showing voters that he is the true conservative in this race. The poll proves Dr. D's message of limited government, less spending, and job creation is resonating with voters and overshadowing Congressman Davis' shameful attacks. I really hope that Rep. Davis has enjoyed the time he's spent in Washington because I believe it is quickly coming to an end."
