Thanks To Those Who Helped With Soddy Daisy Scholastic Clay Event - And Response

Sunday, November 14, 2010

The Soddy Daisy High School Scholastic Clay Target Team would like to express our sincere appreciation to Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Hammond, Don Welch from WTVC Channel 9, Tony Sanders from the Tony Sanders Outdoors Radio Show, Lane Hillis (owner of Old Farmhouse Game Preserve), Ronnie Dodd (former Red Bank Chief of Police), Gary Youngberg (from Alhambra Shrine Pipe and Drums) and all others who gave their time to come shoot in our Celebrity and Sponsor Sporting Clays Competition at Montlake Classic Clays on Saturday.

These important people could have been anywhere else on a Saturday and they chose to give their time and attention to high school students in the outdoors.

In today's busy world it's refreshing to see leaders in our community take time out of their busy schedules to mentor student-athletes. All involved left an important impression on our young people - one that won't be soon forgotten.

On behalf of our team, thank you very much.

Respectfully,
Trevor Fuller and Butch Allen

Speaking for myself, it was my honor and pleasure to be asked to attend and shoot with these fine students. I have given lots of time to youth through teaching hunter safety courses, outdoor skills or volunteering to help teach a kid to fish and one thing I have found to hold true is that kids involved in the outdoors, hunting, shooting and other related activities tend to be outstanding young people always showing respect and rarely getting into trouble. These fine students of the Soddy Daisy Scholastic Clays Team are not an exception to these findings.

I very much enjoyed my time with the students and hope to get even more involved in the future. I must also take my hat off to Mr. Fuller and all the parents that stay involved. There were more than 50 people at Montlake Classic Clays Saturday and only about 12 of us were shooting; the rest were supporting the kids. It would be nice to see that support with all the youth in our county.

I am not sure what all Mr. Fuller hoped to accomplish with the activity, but one thing that happened is the Soddy Daisy Scholastic Clays team has a new fan.

To Brine Or Not To Brine

To Richard Howell, TDOT Regional Construction Manager Richard:   Thanks for the attempted explanation, however it falls far short of explaining how TDOT has managed to utilize brine six times this winter season (fourth warmest on record) and how it missed the forecast completely on each occasion in Polk/Bradley/Hamilton and surrounding counties.  TDOT obviously ... Problems At The Driver's License Center

My daughter went to the new driver's licence center in Red Bank the other day to get her licence renewed.  She got there at 10 a.m. and took a number to be waited on.  They finally called her number at 3:50 p.m.   So, in addition to having to look for what can only be described as a hidden building, well off the highway, that one has to be standing directly ...
