Volkswagen of America CEO Jonathan Browning said in a speech in New York on Thursday that the projected date for the opening of the Chattanooga assembly plant is in April, according to GreenCarReports.com.
He spoke at an International Motor Press Association luncheon on the schedule for the New Mid-Size Sedan (NMS).
The speaker noted that the global unveiling of the new model will be in January at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show.
He said each Volkswagen dealer will receive two early NMS models in June, then sales of the NMS will begin in
September or October.
The speaker said the car will be bigger than the 2011 Volkswagen Passat, have more interior space and sell for a much lower price.
He said it will be sold only in the U.S.
GreenCarReports.com said Mr. Browning announced that VW will bring the hot-rod Volkswagen Golf R to the U.S. as a 2012 model and VW will offer a new high-end car stereo system developed with Fender.
