With the upcoming season only a week away, UTC hosted its media and fan day Thursday at the UTC Hitting Facility. More than 15 members of the local media attended the event this afternoon, while over 175 supporters of the softball program came out to “Meet the Lady Mocs” in the evening.

“It was a great night and we had a lot of fans come out,” said head coach Frank Reed. “Hopefully, it will be a great kickoff for us going down to Florida next Thursday. We are looking forward to getting the season started. The fans have shown that they love softball, which makes the team want to play harder.”

The three-time Southern Conference Coach of the Year fielded questions about his team’s upcoming season and the expectations that have been set for the program.

Senior pitcher Brooke Loudermilk (Locust Grove, Ga.) was asked about her role as a leader in the pitching circle for the Lady Mocs. Fellow pitcher and transfer from Southern Illinois, junior Nikki Waters
(Soddy Daisy) spoke about the excitement of starting the season in her hometown to the local media contingent.

“The fan support was a lot better tonight than the past couple of years especially the presence of different youth teams from around the area,” said senior shortstop Tia Blosser. “It was good to get to talk with the younger kids and hopefully they will come out to our home games.”

The Lady Mocs have been practicing daily since school began on Jan. 6 and are preparing to open the season Feb. 12 in Clermont, Fla. at the National Training Center Invitational. The three-day event will feature matchups with Florida Atlantic, Georgia, Michigan, Oklahoma and UCF.

The Lady Mocs Season Pass is on now on sale. For $55, supporters of the softball team are provided with admission to each game and the entry to the Frost Classic.

In Defense Of Discretionary Spending

Roy Exum: Stop The Emissions Hoax

Eva Milligan, just one of very many across the state who are fed up with Tennessee’s ridiculous auto emissions effort, wrote a letter to Chattanoogan.com last week that painfully told how she had spent over $1,000 to get her 1997 Ford Ranger through the scam and how she was still unsuccessful. She also pointed out such testing is fruitless – except to government coffers – and ... (click for more)
