The Pancake Breakfast and Student-Teacher Basketball Showdown at Normal Park Upper School was snowed out last week, but the school expects a record attendance of 450 people on Saturday. The students, families and staff of Normal Park will come together to cheer on 15 community partners during its second annual Pancake Breakfast and Student-Teacher Basketball Showdown.
Among those being honored as Normal Park Lightning All-Stars is Bryan Welch, the Best Buy Geek Squad employee who helped police recover computers that were stolen last week from Normal Park.
Other honorees include City Councilwoman Sally Robinson, School Board Member Chip Baker, UTC educator Janetta Bradley, and County Commissioners John Allen Brooks, Richard Casavant, and Warren Mackey. Organizations being recognized include the Benwood Foundation, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Chattanooga, Chattem, the Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga, Lawson Electric, North Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce, North Shore Fellowship, Tennessee Aquarium and Unum.
“We are thrilled to recognize the individuals and organizations who have reached out to make a difference in our community,” says Normal Park Principal Jill Levine. “These generous partners have supported Normal Park in numerous ways ranging from technology funding and literacy grants to the renovation of our Lower School campus over the summer.”
The annual Pancake Breakfast and Student-Teacher Basketball Showdown is open to the public. Presented by North Shore Fellowship, the Pancake Breakfast will take place from 8:30-11 a.m. in the Normal Park Upper School Cafeteria, located at 1219 W. Mississippi Ave. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door. The meal includes pancakes, eggs, sausage, coffee, juice and milk. Proceeds benefit the Normal Park athletics department, and breakfast will be served by sports teams.
Immediately following the breakfast is the Student-Teacher Basketball Showdown at 11 a.m. in the Gymnasium. This free event includes a basketball game between the staff and student basketball teams. The halftime show will include recognition of the community partners as well as performances by the Upper School Cheerleaders, Pep Band, and Lower School Pom Squad.
