Robert Aloys Enzenauer died at 89 years of age, in Chattanooga on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010.
He was born July 31, 1920, in Red Bud, Il., to Anton Enzenauer and Lena Germann Enzenauer. He was a WWII veteran, entering the U.S. Army in 1940, where he served in the coastal and anti-aircraft artillery in Europe, including the Normandy Campaign and the Battle of the Bulge (Ardennes).
He was honorably discharged in 1945 and attended Ranken Technical College in St. Louis, later working on the pioneering HVAC system of the Mississippi River excursion boat the S.S. Admiral. He married Dorothy Oberkfell Enzenauer in 1950 and developed his own painting business in Shrewsbury, Mo., a suburb of St. Louis.
He is survived by his son, Robert and his wife, Jill, of Chattanooga and Denver, Co.; his son, Raymond and his wife, Susie, of Chattanooga; his granddaughter, Katherine, of San Jose, Ca.; his grandson, William, of Chattanooga; and several nephews, nieces, and friends.
He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy; and his siblings, Joseph, Anne, Mary and Helena.
He will be honored at a graveside service at the internment of his cremated remains at Chattanooga National Cemetery at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 19.
