Library Announces Top Ten Downloadable Books For January

The Public Library announced the top ten Most Downloaded Books from the Library" for January, 2010.

After being included on countless “Best of 2009” lists, Kathryn Stockett’s The Help rose to number two on the most downloaded adult fiction audiobook list and number four on the eBook chart.

Alice Sebold’s The Lovely Bones also saw a surge in downloads with the release of the motion picture adaptation, hitting number two on the adult fiction eBook list and number five on the audiobook list.

Dan Brown’s The Lost Symbol topped the audiobook and eBook charts for the fifth consecutive month.

The "Most Downloaded Books from the Library" lists are organized by subject and format, and compiled based on activity at more than 10,000 libraries in the OverDrive global network. OverDrive provides download services for more than 10,000 libraries, retailers, and schools worldwide with support for a variety of devices as well as the largest collection of iPod-compatible audiobooks for libraries.

"Most Downloaded Books from the Library" lists are developed based on a formula that includes books checked out and on a waiting list at OverDrive-powered libraries.

Lane Closures On MLK Boulevard Announced For Wednesday

Man Tells Police He Just Murdered His Wife

A Chattanooga man told police Monday night that he had just murdered his wife.  Police said Robert Lee Hardnett, 50. showed up at the County Jail to turn himself in at 8:40 p.m. He said his wife's body could be found at his place of employment, Power Supply Company, 1907 Daisy St.   Officers responded to that address and found the body of 34-year-old Elizabeth ... Red Bank Commissioners Choose Kenneth Welch To Replace Greg Jones; Jeno Won't Run Again

The four remaining members of the Red Bank Commission held a special called meeting on Tuesday and chose Kenneth Welch as the replacement for Vice Mayor Greg Jones, who moved to Alaska. At the same meeting, Commissioner Ruth Jeno announced she will not seek a new term. She urged the candidates who were not selected - Michael Tindle and Eddie Pierce - to run in the next election. ...
