ACFE Hosts Don Provonsha At February Meeting

The Chattanooga ACFE announced that they will have Don Provonsha as their speaker on Tuesday, Feb. 16.

Mr. Provonsha was born in Moab, Ut., where he spent his formative years. Following an enlistment in the Marine Corps, which included a tour of duty in Vietnam, he worked in the Tampa FBI office as an Investigative Clerk while attending the University of South Florida where he received a B.A. Degree in Economics.

Following graduation from college, he accepted an appointment with the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a Special Agent.

After graduation from the FBI Academy, he received FBI assignments to Memphis, New York City, Charleston, W.V., Knoxville, and Chattanooga. He served on FBI SWAT teams for 22 years in these FBI offices, which included eight years as a SWAT team leader.

He received certification as a Principal Firearms Instructor, Technically Trained Agent, and General Police Instructor along with a variety of other FBI certifications throughout his career.

He has managed successful investigations serving as both the principal case agent as well as in the “undercover” role in many major cases specializing primarily in proactive Multiagency Undercover Task Force Investigations targeting corrupt public officials and narcotics traffickers.

After more than 33 years of federal service, he retired from the Chattanooga FBI office as the White Collar Crimes supervisor to accept a position with Provident (now UNUM) as a director in the Field Investigations Department.

After nearly ten years with Provident/UNUM he retired as AVP of Field and Vendor Services to take a position with Life Care Centers of America as a senior vice president and chief compliance officer and a member of the Senior Leadership Team for approximately three years.

Life Care Centers of America is the largest privately owned nursing home company with 225 skilled nursing facilities in 28 states, headquartered at Cleveland.

In addition to responsibility for Corporate Compliance, Mr. Provonsha managed a Corporate Integrity Agreement between LCCA and the federal government and also had responsibility for corporate security in all 28 states for approximately 35,000 employees and 35,000 residents.

The Chattanooga Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners will be meeting on Feb. 16, at the Walden Club from 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m.

Man Tells Police He Just Murdered His Wife

An Chattanooga man told police Monday night that he had just murdered his wife.  Police said Robert Lee Hardnett, 50. showed up at the County Jail to turn himself in at 8:40 p.m. He said his wife's body could be found at his place of employment, Power Supply Company, 1907 Daisy St.   Officers responded to that address and found the body of 34-year-old Elizabeth ... Red Bank Commissioners Choose Kenneth Welch To Replace Greg Jones; Jeno Won't Run Again

The four remaining members of the Red Bank Commission held a special called meeting on Tuesday and chose Kenneth Welch as the replacement for Vice Mayor Greg Jones, who moved to Alaska. Thank You, Judge Mattice And Chattanooga

I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews.  Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin.   A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.  That's what Sgt.
