Police said a man was robbed just after he won a $3,000 tip board bet on the Super Bowl at Bart's Lakeshore Restaurant and Lounge on Lake Resort Terrace.
Tom Hornsby told officers he left the bar with the cash in his pocket and a white female in tow. He said he did not know the woman's name, but had her phone number.
Police said Hornsby said, after they left the bar, the woman asked him to stop across the street in front of the Lakeshore on the Hill apartments.
As soon as he got out of his vehicle, he said a black male pointed a 9mm revolver at him and said, "Give me everything you've got and it'll be alright."
Police, who said Hornsby's memory may have been clouded by the amount he had to drink, said he gave the man his wallet. The gunman asked how much he had in it. He replied, "Nothing." He said it did have a couple of debit cards inside.
He said the robber then reached into his pocket and snatched $40.
But he overlooked another $2,000 in $20 bills from the Super Bowl pot.
A waitress said a description of the gunman sounded like someone who works at the restaurant and lives at the nearby apartments.
What started out as a lucky nght for Hornsby kept getting worse. Police found that he had a warrant out for him for theft over $500, and he was hauled off to jail.
