Southern Accents with Karen Elliott, produced locally by WTCI-TV (PBS), will feature several presidential sites in honor of President's Day.

Airing Thursday, Feb. 11 at 8 p.m., host Karen Elliott visits the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum in Atlanta, Ga., the Andrew Johnson National Historic Site in Greeneville, Tn., and the James K. Polk Ancestral Home in Columbia, Tn.

An encore will air Saturday at 5:30 p.m. and Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

“Producing Southern Accents is such a pleasure because this region has a never ending list of must-see locations, interesting people and unique places,” said Ms. Elliott. “Having an opportunity to meet Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter has been a wonderful highlight to my career, and WTCI is proud to feature three important Presidential sites in honor of our nation's history.”

The Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum is a research facility and museum that is open to the public and features a repository of more than 27 million pages of Jimmy Carter's White House material, over half a million photographs, and several hundred hours of audio and video from the administration.

The Andrew Johnson National Historic Site honors the life of the 17th President, whose presidency (1865-1869) illustrates the United States Constitution at work following President Lincoln's assassination and during attempts to reunify a nation torn by civil war.

The James K. Polk Ancestral Home houses a collection of more than 1,500 items that belonged to the 11th president and his wife, including presidential portraits, an inaugural gown, and the first photograph ever taken inside the White House.

Now entering its 18th season, Southern Accents with Karen Elliott is WTCI's longest running locally produced series and has received four Mid-South Regional Emmy nominations, including a nomination last season.

Highlighting wonderful places to visit and things to do throughout the Southeast, the program achieved national exposure in February 2009 when it became the first WTCI program to air nationwide on other PBS networks. Now viewers across most of the Southeast and in portions of eleven other states —including New Jersey, California, and Montana— can join host Karen Elliott on a trip through some of the South’s most distinctive and historic locations.

Other featured destinations this season include: Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg; Lookout Mountain Flight Park; and Jellies: Living Art, a unique partnership between the Tennessee Aquarium and the Hunter Museum of American Art.

Southern Accents with Karen Elliott airs Thursday nights at 8 p.m. with encores on Saturdays at 5:30 p.m. and Sundays at 1:30 p.m.

Originally from South Carolina, Ms. Elliott graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in journalism. She arrived in Chattanooga after she accepted her first job as an anchor/reporter with a local commercial station and joined WTCI in April 1996 as host and producer of Southern Accents.

An avid community volunteer, Ms. Elliott has served as president of the Chattanooga Bar Association Auxiliary, Thrasher Elementary PTA and The Chattanooga Girls Cotillion Club. She has also served on several community boards, including the Junior League of Chattanooga and Habitat for Humanity.

We Are Blessed To Have Ron Littlefield As Our Mayor - And Response (2)

Chattanooga is blessed beyond measure to have Ron Littlefield as our mayor.  It is a total travesty our city has had to endure the long frivolous battle with absolutely  no foundation other than disagreement with policy issues.  It has always been a vendetta directed personally at Mayor Littlefield which, if the "interveners" decide to appeal, will be a proven fact.   ...
