Johnny McDaniel, director of Schools, announced that Deb Bailey will be the principal at the new Park View Elementary School which will open for the 2010-2011 school year.

Mrs. Bailey has been the principal at Blue Springs Elementary School since June 2005. She will continue at Blue Springs for the remainder of this school year. When Mrs. Bailey was hired by Bradley County Schools, Bob Taylor, former director of schools, stated that she would be an outstanding addition to the leadership team for Bradley County Schools.

Mrs. Bailey brought with her a variety of educational experiences which have benefited the students at Blue Springs, officials said.

Mrs. Bailey grew up in South Carolina and attended the University of South Carolina where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Education, a Masters degree in Music Education, and a Masters in Educational Leadership. In 1998, Mrs. Bailey moved to the Ooltewah area and began teaching choral music at Catoosa County until her employment in Bradley County.

When asked to comment on her appointment as principal of Park View Elementary School, Mrs. Bailey stated, “I am honored to be a part of the birth of Park View Elementary. I see opportunities for our children of Bradley County, along with their families, to come together and create an educational institution second to none. I look forward to the process of weaving a tapestry of faculty and staff who are dedicated to children and excellence in education. We are so blessed to have such a strong pool of caring people willing to go the extra mile for the children of Bradley County. It has always been our people who set Bradley County Schools apart, and Park View will be a blend of a people with the same dedication."

Mrs. Bailey, along with the director of schools, plans to conduct various parent meetings even before the construction is complete at Park View. Preregistration dates for grades 1-5 will be announced for Park View, and kindergarten registration for Park View will be conducted on Thursday, May 6, at Cleveland Family YMCA located on Urbane Road.

“Even before we officially open the doors of Park View Elementary, we will begin building our new family,” said Mrs. Bailey. “I understand there will be some families who come with high expectations and yet a sadness to leave what they have because we are blending from three great schools. To the students and families of Park View Elementary may I say how excited I am to meet each and every one of you. We have great things to accomplish together."

Mr. McDaniel said, “Mrs. Bailey has a true passion to serve both teachers and students. She will lead Park View Elementary School with excellence. I have no doubt this school will become a school of choice for many families in the community. Mrs. Bailey has already been active in making plans and decisions to prepare for the opening of this new school in the fall. We realize this will be a difficult transition for many; however, it will be made easier under Mrs. Bailey’s leadership and love for the children who will become students at Park View.”

Thoughts On The Mathews Sentencing

It is not by coincidence I haven’t submitted an opinion piece in some time to the Chattanoogan.  The topics I cover are generally vitriolic in regards to local political decisions and their makers regarding public safety and I do not wish to associate my name with more noble subjects such as that of the heroic death and cowardly murder of Chattanooga Police Sergeant Tim Chapin, ... Thank You, Judge Mattice And Chattanooga

I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews.  Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin.   A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.  That's what Sgt. Chapin would have wanted.  He was a protector and sacrificed his life so the rest of ... (click for more)
