The Chattanooga ACFE will have Joanie Sompayrac, J.D., CPA, as their speaker on Tuesday. Ms. Sompayrac’s presentation is entitled “Preventing Fraud and Minimizing Volunteer Liability.”
Ms. Sompayrac is a University of Chattanooga Foundation associate professor of Accounting and Business Law at UTC and serves as faculty assistant director of the University Honors Program. She earned a B.S. degree in Accounting (with a minor in Psychology) and a Master of Accountancy from UT-Chattanooga, and a law degree from the University of Cincinnati. She teaches in the areas of accounting, estate and gift tax, business law and ethics.
She has published articles in the Journal of Accountancy, Practical Tax Strategies, the Employment Law Quarterly, the Tennessee CPA Journal, and the CPA Journal. She has served as treasurer of the Arts and & Education Council, the Chattanooga Area Urban League and Houston Museum Antique Show. She has also served as vice chair of the Chattanooga Human Right Human Relations Commission.
She is licensed as a CPA in Tennessee and an attorney in Ohio. She is married, and she and her husband, Tony Grossi, love sports, reading and travel.
The Chattanooga Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners will be meeting Tuesday at the Walden Club from 11:45-1 p.m.
The cost is $20 for members/non-members, $10 for students. A buffet style lunch is included in the price.
