Chattanooga Police say traffic fatalities are going down since speed and red light cameras were added.
Police Chief Freeman Cooper said there were 37 traffic fatalities in 2006 prior to the introduction of the first cameras on the Hixson Pike S Curves in July 2007.
He said the traffic fatalities went to 30 in 2007, to 28 in 2008 and to 21 in 2009.
The city issued 75,472 automated camera citations from 2007-2009.
Those include:
19,989 red light
36,683 mobile speed
18,800 fixed speed
The city's fixed-speed cameras are on the S Curves and Barton Avenue.
