Five people, including one young child, were transported by ambulance to Hamilton Medical Center after a wreck on VD Parrott Parkway Thursday afternoon.
Police said a Jeep Cherokee, carrying four people, and a large sewer and drain truck collided. The traffic unit of the Dalton Police Department is investigating.
VD Parrott Parkway was closed near Dalton Utilities after the wreck.
Dalton Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit said the wreck happened about 1:10 p.m.
The report says evidence at the scene indicates that a 1993 Jeep Cherokee, driven by Andrew West, 28, of Lansing, Tn., was traveling south on VD Parrott Parkway when it crossed over the double yellow line and struck a 1996 Volvo Conventional Truck being driven by Phillip Young, 36, of Oakman, Ga., head on.
Mr. West was transported to Hamilton Medical Center with possible internal injuries. Three passengers in the vehicle driven by Mr. West were also transported to Hamilton Medical Center. Front seat passenger Elizabeth Brock, 20, of Dalton was transported with unknown injuries. Rear seat passenger Anthony Hill, 30, of Rocky Face was also transported with possible internal injuries. A 1 year-old boy, who was a rear seat passenger and restrained in a child car seat was transported but treated and released.
It was unclear Thursday evening why the vehicle driven by Mr. West crossed over into the northbound lane, police said.
