Thursday, March 11, 2010 - by Susan H. Shelton

Bradley County Director of Schools Johnny McDaniel said Thursday that plans are to start students at Park View, the county's new elementary school, at the beginning of the next school year even if alternative facilities must be arranged for a few weeks.

He said at the board of education monthly meeting that construction is moving smoothly. Drilling of geothermal wells has been started, 95 percent of the block work on the gym is complete and grading and utilities will move forward as weather permits.

Deb Bailey, who has been named principal for Park View, announced the first of several parent meetings concerning the new school will be held on April 9 at the YMCA at 6:30 p.m. Enrollment is open to all county residents. Park View Kindergarten registration will be held May 6.

Cason Conn with TriCon, Inc. informed the board that bids should go out on the Bradley Central High School Fine Arts building by mid-April.

Cleveland Roofing was awarded the bid for putting a new roof on a portion of Valley View Elementary at a cost of $29,250. This work will be done over spring break.

Derek Martin with American Constructors, stated that most of what is left to do at Valley View Elementary will be completed during next week’s spring break.

The board approved the renewal of a lease with Family Resource Agency for East Cleveland School, which houses Head Start/Pre-K.

Also, Bradley Central High School wrestlers and their coaches were recognized. This team, co-captained by Trevor Heron and Chris Aguilar, recently landed the 21st Overall State Championship, the most ever received in Tennessee, as well as 18 Straight Region 3 Championships.

Individual State Champions from BCHS are Ethan Hames, 119 lbs., Trevor Herron, 135 lbs., and Chris Aguilar, 152 lbs. Thank You, Judge Mattice And Chattanooga

I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews.  Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin.   A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.  That's what Sgt. Chapin would have wanted.  He was a protector and sacrificed his life so the rest of ... (click for more)
