The Hamilton County Commission has agreed to pay $180,000 to the family of a county jail inmate who hanged himself.
County Attorney Rheubin Taylor said the payment will remove the county as a defendant from a lawsuit brought by the family of Joel Viggers.
He said the family also sued a psychiatrist who was treating him, and that case remains ongoing.
Authorities said the young man tried to hang himself at the jail on Jan. 7, 2008, and he died a week later from his injuries.
He was a disc golf player, and the Joel Viggers Memorial Ice Bowl is held each year in his honor.
