Wayne Anthony Simpson, 74, of Grandview, died early Thursday morning, March 11, 2010 at Rhea Medical Center.

Wayne was born on Feb. 29, 1936 the son of the late Claude and Margaret (Shillings) Simpson; and was also preceded in death by his step-mother, Susie (Robbins) Simpson; and his daughter, Flora “Sissie” Simpson.

Wayne was a resident of Grandview Mountain for many years. He served his country with the US Air Force retiring after 22 years. While in the USAF he worked as a boom operator and then an air traffic controller. He was a lifetime member of both the American Legion Post #203 in Spring City and the VFW post in Crossville. Wayne was a member of the Lighthouse Senior Center in Spring City and was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by is wife of 32 years, Betty (McBay) Simpson; sons, Barry Simpson, Mike Simpson and Tommy Simpson all of Grandview; his daughter, Robin Barcus of Oh.; two sisters, Faye Bean of Grandview and Carolyn Phelps of Ga.; his brother, Donald Simpson of Grandview; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Wayne will be held Saturday, March 13 at 1 p.m. at the Christian Fellowship Church on Grandview Mountain with Rev. Steve Zimmerman and Rev. Clyde Fitzgerald officiating.

The family will receive friends Friday, March 12 from 5-8 p.m. at the Vaughn Funeral Home in Spring City. The body will also lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service.

Graveside services with full military honors will be held Monday, March 15 at 11:30 a.m. at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Man Tells Police He Just Murdered His Wife

Red Bank Commissioners Choose Kenneth Welch To Replace Greg Jones; Jeno Won't Run Again
