TAMPA, Fla. -- Heavy rains and tornado warnings covered much of central Florida Thursday causing the cancellation of the Braves game at Tampa.
The last time a Braves Spring Training game was canceled due to rain was on March 26, 2005.
The start of Friday's contest against the Pirates was delayed for 30-minutes. After two innings, the game was stopped with neither team scoring. The game resumed and the Pirates scored a run off reliever Jo-Jo Reyes to lead 1-0 when the rains came again and the game was called.
Jason Heyward didn't play again on Thursday. But this time it had nothing to do with injury.
Heyward and the rest of his teammates made the 90-minute trip from Kissimmee to Tampa on Thursday, only to endure a rainout of their Grapefruit League game against the Yankees.
Thursday's scheduled starter, Jair Jurrjens, was to start at home against the Pirates on Friday. Tommy Hanson, who was to start Friday's game, was scheduled to throw four innings in relief.
Jurrjens is overcoming a bout of right shoulder inflammation.
If weather cancels another game Friday, they will be forced to make up for lost time with bullpen sessions and simulated games.
