Republican Senators Turn Their Backs On Seniors And The Disabled

Friday, March 12, 2010

As I have stated before, I am a registered Republican, conservative, gun carrying, Christian.
I did not ask to be on Social Security disability, just as I did not ask to get Multiple Sclerosis. But it is what it is. I have accepted my lot in life. I am not asking for a handout, never have. But this was needed desperately.

On March 3, the Senate voted down a bill written by Senator Bernie Sanders (I) Vt 50-47. The bill was for a massive $ 250 payment to seniors and disabled due to the increase in the cost of living.

Social Security payments for the elderly and disabled will stay flat this year for the first time since 1975 because they are tied to consumer prices, which decreased amid the worst economic recession in 70 years.

All Republicans in the Senate plus 10 Democrats voted to deny the $250 payment. Our glorious Tennessee Senators, Alexander and Corker voted to defeat the bill.

I defy anyone to point out to me that the cost of living has decreased. The government has decided we don't need a increase for at least two years. Our Medicare Premiums have went up, Parts A & B. Part D have gone up. Co-pays on meds have gone up.
I could go on and on, citing everything that has gone up and continues to. You have to live in a bubble to not see this everyday.

Back to our Senators. It was stated that they had to watch the deficit, this would have cost 13 Billion dollars. Crap. The Congress, with their fabulous approval rating, have spent over a Trillion. TARP, Stimulis 1, GM, Chrysler, and I have lost count.

The seniors and disabled are facing a 500 billion dollar cut in Medicare. They have denied the cost of living increase, the first ever. Heck, you would think the seniors and disabled was writing the bills based on the Congress response.

I am listing all these esteemed statesmen and Stateswomen on my blog. In order to save space, I did not list them here. Go To mitchthurmer.blogspot.com to see the listing.

I am going to write everyone of these folks. The need to know that the cost of a good steak dinner at one of their exclusive restaurants in D.C. would have gone a long way out here. And to beat it all, do you think I would have saved that money? It would have already been gone. Groceries, gas, EPB bills, It would have been right back in the economy. And remember, taxes would have gone into our starving county coffers and The starving state coffers and the starving federal Coffers. That would have been the best stimulis of them all.

But what do I know, I am just a 53 year old Boomer out here on the Government dole.

Like McCain Said, Let's make these Senators famous.

Alexander and Corker, have you forgotten there is an election looking you in the face? Great way to endear you to your previous supporters. Notice the word, previous.
