Haskel Sears Design Celebrates Grand Opening At Palate 2 Palette

Friday, March 12, 2010

Anyone who has stepped foot into Greenlife Grocery is familiar with the craftsmanship of Haskel Sears Design. From the reclaimed heart pine produce displays to the decorative bamboo cheese counter and bent laminate stools, Haskel Sears had a hand in just about every wooden item in the store.

Owned and run by craftsman Matt Sears, Haskel Sears Design has been making sustainable furniture design since its inception in 2005. Building upon a decade of experience in wood craft and design, HSD creates artisan pieces with reclaimed lumber, environmentally sensitive adhesives and finishes, and a sense for the character and heritage of each creation.

On March 20, Haskel Sears will open the doors of a newly remodeled gallery and showroom, located just off of E. Main Street on Rossville Avenue. This opening coincides with Palate 2 Palette, the Southside’s annual street festival celebrating local visual, floral and culinary arts.

The grand opening festivities will consist of live music from Eric Collins, Thai treats of Sweet Basil, and floral displays provided by Humphrey’s Flowers. Paintings by Mia Bergeron and the photography of Julia Davis will be up all month to compliment the Haskel Sears furniture collection on display.

“For a long time, we’ve been operating out of a hard-to-find warehouse space, so the move to the Southside—and the addition of a storefront—has been really exciting,” said owner Matt Sears. “We’re looking forward to becoming a part of the Southside neighborhood, so its perfect to be able to open our doors as a participant in this community event.”

Haskel Sears’ new space at 1800 Rossville Ave. will be open between 5-8 p.m. on Saturday, March 20. After March 20, the gallery and woodshop will be open 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
