Acclaimed Italian pianist Fabio Bidini will bring his virtuosity to the Dixon Center stage on Tuesday, March 23, at 7:30 p.m. in Lee’s final Presidential Concert of the 2009-10 season. Mr. Bidini will present a program of familiar piano works by Chopin, Mozart and Schumann.
Mr. Bidini's repertoire is vast, containing 84 piano concerti that range from works from the baroque to the modern eras. He has received praise from numerous music critics and reviews including The New York Times, Broad Street Review of Philadelphia, Classical Voice of North Carolina and many more.
Playing piano since age five, Mr. Bidini has won 11 of Italy’s most important piano competitions. His career went international after winning top prizes at the Van Ciburn International Piano Competition, and he is now at the forefront of younger generation pianists.
He has performed with the London Symphony Orchestra and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and is a frequent guest of many other well-known orchestras worldwide. He has played at numerous venues, including Carnegie Hall, the Kimmel Center Philadelphia, and the Kennedy Center in Washington to name a few.
Mr. Bidini has collaborated successfully with leading conductors of our time and has been repeatedly invited to perform at prominent festivals internationally. He has recorded 13 CDs with leading recording companies.
In 2009, he was appointed to one of the highest chairs for piano at the esteemed "Hochschule fur Musik Hanns Eisler", a university of music in Berlin, and has since taught as a professor there.
The March 23 Mr. Bidini concert is being dedicated to the memory of Michael Brownlee, who died last November after a 30-year career as a member of Lee’s piano faculty.
