Internationally-Known Cardiologist To Speak At UTCOMC On March 25

Bertram Pitt, MD, FAHA, professor emeritus of Internal Medicine and former director of the Division of Cardiology at the University of Michigan School of Medicine, will be the guest speaker for Grand Rounds at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine Chattanooga, based at Erlanger, on Thursday, March 25.

“The Role of Aldosterone in Heart Failure” will be the topic of Dr. Pitt’s lecture. The event, sponsored by UTCOMC’s Department of Internal Medicine, will be held from 8:15 to 9:15 a.m. in the Probasco Auditorium on the Erlanger Baroness Campus and is open to the public.

Dr. Pitt is known internationally for his work on new treatments aimed at blocking the harmful heart hormone called aldosterone. He is the recipient of the prestigious Herrick Award from the American Heart Association’s Council on Clinical Cardiology, one of the association’s highest honors.

The award recognizes a physician for scientific achievements that have contributed profoundly to the advancement and practice of clinical cardiology.

Dr. Pitt has served as the principal or co-principal Investigator of a number of significant clinical trials in the area of cardiovascular disease, with special emphasis on ischemic heart disease and heart failure. He is the author of nearly 500 papers and chapters in books and serves on several editorial boards for cardiovascular disease journals.

A graduate of the Medical School of the University of Basel in Switzerland, Dr. Pitt received his postdoctoral training at Beth Israel Hospital Boston and the Johns Hopkins Hospital University.

Man Tells Police He Just Murdered His Wife

I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews.  Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin.   A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.  That's what Sgt.
