CreateHere Participates In Palate 2 Palette

Benefits Craniofacial Foundation Of America

Monday, March 15, 2010

This year’s Palate 2 Platte event marks CreateHere’s third year participating in the fundraiser for the Craniofacial Foundation of America. Palate 2 Palette features an evening of culinary, visual, and performing arts to benefit this important organization, which provides individuals around the world with accessible, life-changing craniofacial surgery.

The event will take place Saturday from 5-8 p.m. Exhibiting artwork in nine galleries throughout the Southside neighborhood, P2P will highlight the community’s energy, dynamism and appreciation for the arts.

CreateHere will feature two video montages by videographer, Grant Withington, music by MakeWork grant recipient Philip Allen, aka DJ K7, floral arrangements from Jeffery’s Flowers and Creole cuisine from Blue Orleans.

Mr. Withington used film footage from the past century to create two separate montages focusing on the complexities of the hands and face. The mix by DJ K7 is a colorful pastiche of musical sampling. And similarly the Creole cuisine, offered by Blue Orleans, blends the influences of various cultural techniques around the region and the world.

Additionally, there will be a photo montage in honor of Daryl Graham, a 14-year-old boy with Apert Syndrome, a congenital disorder characterized by malformations of the skull, face, hands and feet. Daryl has been receiving treatment from Dr. Larry Sergent of the CFA since he was six months old. His family is a testament to the powerful work that is being done on behalf of the foundation.

“Just know that as you stroll today and read the stories of these amazing children and their families, your donations to The Craniofacial Foundation of America are the best gift a family can receive,” said Denise Graham, Daryl’s mother.

Following the Gallery Stroll and showcase at CreateHere, Loose Cannon will host the Bubbles & Sweets after party from 8-10 p.m. Bubbles & Sweets will feature artful desserts from Sodexo, champagne from William-Harrison Imports and live music from the always popular Willie Kitchens and his band.

Thoughts On The Mathews Sentencing

It is not by coincidence I haven’t submitted an opinion piece in some time to the Chattanoogan.  The topics I cover are generally vitriolic in regards to local political decisions and their makers regarding public safety and I do not wish to associate my name with more noble subjects such as that of the heroic death and cowardly murder of Chattanooga Police Sergeant Tim Chapin, ... Thank You, Judge Mattice And Chattanooga

I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews.  Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin.   A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.  That's what Sgt. Chapin would have wanted.  He was a protector and sacrificed his life so the rest of ... (click for more)
