Fourth-grade ALPHA students celebrated Medieval Day at Dug Gap Elementary after studying the Middle Ages. During the last few weeks, the students built castles and designed armor to help them research historical events and learn about monarchies, knights, the Black Plague. Their work culminated in a play.
“I liked the play the best,” said Anna Grace Benson, a student who played Queen Raven, the ruler of the land of Alphatopia. Many knights and sires fought in a brave battle against a dangerous mythological dragon during the play.
Learning about the Middle Ages helped students understand where so many cultural references originated. Student Josiah Hastey said, “fighting terrible battles and defending innocent peasants makes for a great day at school!”
