New Edition Of Tastebuds Has Changes

Wednesday, March 17, 2010

Chattanooga’s TasteBuds local food guide will be published for a second year with some big changes. The 2010 edition will be magazine-styled and will include pictures, articles, and ads, all while keeping the local focus.

Last year, TasteBuds made local food more accessible and more visible in the Chattanooga region.

TasteBuds, Chattanooga’s local food guide, was introduced last year to help consumers connect with local food produced in a 100-mile radius of the city.

TasteBuds is a grant-funded publication that lists organizations that produce or support local food, such as: farms, hand-crafted food artisans, restaurants, wineries, breweries, community gardens, groceries and nonprofit organizations.

Last year, TasteBuds included over 70 local listings in the guide. This year, TasteBuds will top 100 local listings.

Crabtree Farms also conducted an online survey to gather feedback on the value and usefulness of the first issue of TasteBuds local food guide.

Of responding TasteBuds partners, 75% felt that TasteBuds increased demand for their locally grown/crafted items, 100% stated that being listed in TasteBuds increased their sales and 50% reported that TasteBuds enabled them to make new local food connections.

"I’ve heard so many people talk about how TasteBuds helped them find local farms, markets or local food crafters," said Melanie Mayo, director of Education and Outreach at Crabtree Farms. "The local food guide really is bringing consumers and dollars to the local food economy."

Crabtree is now accepting applications for the 2010 edition of TasteBuds local food guide.

Thoughts On The Mathews Sentencing

It is not by coincidence I haven’t submitted an opinion piece in some time to the Chattanoogan.  The topics I cover are generally vitriolic in regards to local political decisions and their makers regarding public safety and I do not wish to associate my name with more noble subjects such as that of the heroic death and cowardly murder of Chattanooga Police Sergeant Tim Chapin, ... Thank You, Judge Mattice And Chattanooga

I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews.  Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin.   A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.  That's what Sgt. Chapin would have wanted.  He was a protector and sacrificed his life so the rest of ... (click for more)
