Free Trapper Training at Hiwassee Refuge

Mark your calendars for next month when the Tennessee Fur Harvesters and Furbearers Unlimited are co-sponsoring a free trapper training camp for all ages at the Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge, Birchwood, TN on Friday, April 30 through Sunday, May 2, 2010. Proceedings begin at 6:00 p.m. on Friday evening and close at noon on Sunday.

All ages are welcome to attend. Actual “in field” training will be provided. Meals will be furnished on Saturday, as well as Sunday breakfast. Games and contests will be held for all ages. Free primitive camping is available at the refuge. Please call, in advance (if possible) to advise your participation and/or if you require further information, contact John Daniel at 423-595-0986.

Directions: From I-75 to Cleveland, take the Paul Huff Parkway Exit, go to Hwy. 60 (towards Dayton) 14.5 miles, turn right onto Shadden Road and follow the signs. From Dayton (going towards Cleveland) take Highway 27 to Highway 60 approximately 7 miles on left, take Shadden Road and follow signs.

This will be an educational and fun-filled event! All ages are welcome to attend.


Natural Playgrounds Workshop Is Monday

Fishing Report From TWRA

Here is the TWRA Fishing Report from Feb. 1: Center Hill:  Fishing is good.  Water temperature is 48 degrees; lake is fairly stable.  Lots of smallmouth are being caught on the lower end of the lake while fishing tailspinners and swimbaits in 10-to-25 feet of water.  A few crappie are being caught around docks on minnows in 15 feet of water.  Chickamauga: ... $750,000 Settlement Reached In Case In Which Bicyclist Was Hit By Tahoe

A $750,000 settlement has been reached in Hamilton County Circuit Court in a case in which a bicyclist was struck by a Chevrolet Tahoe and seriously injured. Sean Sanderson and his wife, Dr. Stephanie Sanderson, of Cleveland, Tn.,had filed suit against Benjamin Wilson and Oscar Wilson.
