Former City Council member Debbie Gaines has sent a letter to the election office saying she has decided to drop out of a race for the County Commission in the Democratic primary against incumbent Warren Mackey in District 4.
Ms. Gaines said in the letter that she remains interested in public services, but said it was "not the right time" for her to make another race.
Election officials said ballots are already at the printer so Ms. Gaines' name will be on the ballot for the May 4 primary.
Ms. Gaines was legislative assistant to the County Commission for a number of years.
She served a term as the District 9 City Council member, but chose in 2008 not to seek another term.
Commissioner Mackey, a professor at Chattanooga State, had taken the District 4 seat after William Cotton resigned following his arrest by federal authorities.
