Lady Mustangs Hit UGA

Sunday, March 21, 2010 - by Don Foley

ATHENS, Ga. - Tricia Goodwin's Georgia Northwestern Lady Mustangs improved to 17-12 on the 2010 season after a rough ride at the University of Georgia Bulldog Club Tournament on Saturday.

The Lady 'Stangs split with the University of South Carolina Gamecock Volleyball club squad, then got swept courtesy of the host, University of Georgia, currently ranked 13th in the nation.

"It was a tough day, all day for us today," said GNTC Head Coach, Tricia Goodwin. "We've played much better against these big name schools this year. We've made the Lady Mustang name a big name this year by our play alone in 2010. This was just not our day. We'll be ready for our closer Saturday."

Scores for Georgia Northwestern in pool play were: vs. South Carolina - 11-25, 25-23, vs. UGA - 10-25, 12-25. The day ended when the Lady Mustangs met South Carolina again. This time in an elimination round match and was swept 25-19, 25-10.

The season wraps up at West Georgia Tech in Carrollton, Georgia next Saturday.

This is the third season for Georgia Northwestern to offer women's volleyball as a collegiate sport. In those three seasons, the Lady Mustangs have racked up huge wins which they have continued to build their program upon. Among the victories were matches against Ole Miss, Tennessee, Alabama, and Mississippi State volleyball club squads.

"We have one of the most comprehensive rosters in our regions," said Goodwin. "We have student-athletes who compete and study with us from all across Northwest Georgia. As a result, we made a squad that competes well with some of the best across the Southeast."

Thoughts On The Mathews Sentencing

It is not by coincidence I haven’t submitted an opinion piece in some time to the Chattanoogan.  The topics I cover are generally vitriolic in regards to local political decisions and their makers regarding public safety and I do not wish to associate my name with more noble subjects such as that of the heroic death and cowardly murder of Chattanooga Police Sergeant Tim Chapin, ... Thank You, Judge Mattice And Chattanooga

I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews.  Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin.   A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.  That's what Sgt. Chapin would have wanted.  He was a protector and sacrificed his life so the rest of ... (click for more)
