East Chattanooga Weed and Seed and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will partner with community members on April 24, in the neighborhoods of East Chattanooga for a community clean-up and revitalization project. Some of the buildings being affected include Friendship Haven Nursing Home, Orchard Knob Middle School, as well as various churches and homes in the area.
James Moreland, community organizer, said, “The details are being finalized now and we feel a lot of very meaningful service will be performed this day.”
Over 1600 volunteers are expected to lend a hand, as part of the second annual Day of Service for 11 states in the Southeast for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Its goal is to strengthen local communities with meaningful service projects that will help those in need, beautify communities, build friendships and bolster the spirits of those who serve and those who are recipients of the services.
Last year’s inaugural Day of Service yielded over 47,700 volunteers with over 223,000 man hours donated. Community partners include a myriad of local organizations like Pepsi, Hungry Howie’s Pizza, Kenco Warehousing, and many others.
