With all the talk of Riverbend lately, let us not forget about another of Chattanooga’s crown jewels of music events, coming up on us soon. River City Company dissolved the Chattanooga Downtown Partnership earlier this year, but it’s former director, Carla Pritchard has started a new company and will continue the stellar series. I sat down with Carla last month and she was very excited about the new opportunity and was looking forward to another great Nightfall season for 2010.

For those living in Timbuckthree for the past 20 years, Nightfall is a music series that runs from late spring to early fall at Miller Plaza, located at MLK and Market Street. (Timbuckthree is about 27 miles past Timbuktu) The Friday night series usually features a local opening act, followed by a big-time regional or national act. The quality of music at the free series each Friday night is top-drawer. Just about every genre of music is represented each year at Nightfall, so there is something for everyone. If you would like your children to experience a great musical act, but can’t sneak them in the local music hall or tavern, this event will work well for you.

Look for a new website and this year’s schedule to be released soon. I for one, cannot wait, as there are always acts that are new to me, as well as favorite acts that I am happy to see again. The sound quality at Nightfall is always professional quality and it makes for a fun experience.

Another weekly musical event starts up soon, as well. The Chattanooga Market re-opens for the season in just a month, starting April 25 and running every Sunday through December 5. The Chattanooga Market features great live music, free and family friendly, along with locally grown fruits and vegetables, locally made crafts and art, and great dining selections from several local food establishments. Their website is up and running right here!.

Bob’s Pick-O-The-Weekend is the EZ Street, the house band at The Lower Level, which is in the old Governor’s location. They have actually updated their website and now we can publish who is playing there. If we could only get the info from Spectaters!

Bob’s Pick-O-The-Week is my friend Shawnessey Cargile, playing at the Mudpie on Frazier Avenue, along with Darren Johnson and Kyle MacKillop tonight. (Thursday) The Mudpie is fun and you really have to try their desserts.

In Defense Of Discretionary Spending

Dear Roy,   I am flattered that you and I think a lot alike and that we both use the same 'Rule Book.'  I also agree with you that it is healthy to offer differing opinions.  However, I disagree with you on the issue of discretionary spending.   I did not see you at the Hamilton County Pachyderm Club meeting on Monday.  Sorry that I did not see you ... Roy Exum: Stop The Emissions Hoax

Eva Milligan, just one of very many across the state who are fed up with Tennessee’s ridiculous auto emissions effort, wrote a letter to Chattanoogan.com last week that painfully told how she had spent over $1,000 to get her 1997 Ford Ranger through the scam and how she was still unsuccessful. She also pointed out such testing is fruitless – except to government coffers – and ... (click for more)
