A Ringgold man who was partially ejected during a single-vehicle accident Friday night has died.
The driver of the 1997 BMW, Phillip Anthony Jackson, 39, died during surgery due to a liver laceration.
A passenger, Roy Malone, 28, of Chattanooga, was in stable condition.
According to traffic investigators, alcohol and speed were factors in the crash.
Chattanooga officers had the exit to Interstate 75 south from Highway 153 south closed due to the accident that occurred about 11:05 p.m.
According to witnesses, the single-vehicle involved was traveling at a high rate of speed going south on Highway 153 to Interstate 75 south.
The driver apparently lost control of the vehicle, hit the guard rail in the curve, causing the vehicle to flip. The vehicle landed on the driver. He was unconscious but breathing when he was transported to the hospital by HCEMS.
