A house on Shallowford Road that had a recent previous fire was consumed by flames on Saturday night.

At approximately 10:50 p.m., the Hamilton County 911 Center received numerous calls for a reported structure fire in the 8000 block of Shallowford Road. Due to the close proximity of the Chattanooga city limits, both the Chattanooga Fire Department and the Tri-Community Fire Department were dispatched.

Upon arrival, it was determined that the fire was located at 8012 Shallowford Road inside the city limits of Chattanooga. Firefighters from Quint 8 reported a fully-involved structure fire.

The structure had been vacant since a previous structure fire in December and the decision was made to fight the fire in a defensive nature.

Large hose streams were used from the outside of the structure since the house had significant damage from a previous fire and considered too unsafe to enter. Traffic on Shallowford Road between Jenkins Road and Ranch Hills Road had to be closed due to fire hoses being stretched across Shallowford Road.

Firefighters from Quint 8, Quint 13, Quint 21 and Squad 3 fought the fire for approximately 30 minutes until the fire was declared under control.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Chattanooga Fire Department, Fire Investigation. No injuries were reported and no estimate of damages was given due to the previous fire.

The Chattanooga Fire Department was assisted by the Chattanooga Police Department, Hamilton County EMS and the Electric Power Board.

Thoughts On The Mathews Sentencing

It is not by coincidence I haven’t submitted an opinion piece in some time to the Chattanoogan.  The topics I cover are generally vitriolic in regards to local political decisions and their makers regarding public safety and I do not wish to associate my name with more noble subjects such as that of the heroic death and cowardly murder of Chattanooga Police Sergeant Tim Chapin, ... A Good School Takes Involvement - And Response

As I have read the articles concerning Normal Park School I can’t keep from thinking when our children started to school in the 1960‘s. The two elementary schools in the city that were considered tops were Barger and Woodmore. We did not live in the zone for either school so we looked for a house to buy that was zoned for Woodmore.   We found ... (click for more)
