Two North Chattanooga residents said they are planning to launch a mini-brewery in their neighborhood.
Mark Marcum and Jonathan Clark are owners of the Chattanooga Brewing Company, which will operate in an existing building at 800 North Market St.
Mr. Marcum said they adopted the name of a large brewery that operated downtown from around the 1890s to Prohibition times.
He said the business will produce high-end, craft beers for sale in local establishments.
Mr. Marcum said it is planned to have three different basic beer styles produced with seasonal specialties.
He said the equipment has been ordered and is in storage. The owners are hoping for federal approval soon.
Mr. Marcum said he has had a home brewery for 10 years. Mr. Clark formerly worked at a min-brewery in Atlanta.
Rezoning for the property is conditioned on no sales on site and operation between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
