“St. PAWtrick’s Day” Dog Walk at Ross’ Landing Sat. March 13 10 a.m. - noon. The DOGood for a Dog Friendly Chattanooga downtown citizen’s dog owners group and their dogs will be decked out in green to promote “keeping the riverfront clean and green”! This group is working with our department to become visible advocates at the riverfront for responsible pet practices. Call 643-6079 for details.

Community Tree Planting by VW Employees in Jefferson Park Sat. March 13 9 a.m. – noon. One of Volkswagen’s main slogans is “putting down roots in Chattanooga”. VW Company employees will do just that again at Jefferson Park the help of Gene Hyde, Take Root, and our Parks Dept. VW is very environmentally conscious and has secured funding to replenish trees at the assembly site and throughout the city. Call Scott Wilson at 755-5847.

Senior Olympics Information and Training Day Saturday, March 13 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the North River YMCA. Demonstrations and brief lessons by coaches and trainers on various Senior Olympics events ie: basketball free throw, racquetball, swimming (stroke class), softball throw, javelin, shot put, discus, etc. R.S.V.P. for the Senior Olympics Information and Training Day is appreciated. Outdoor Chattanooga & Rock Creek Outfitters Kayak Day Trip at Nickajack Lake Sat. Mar. 13 9:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. Participants will paddle around Bennett Lake, Little Chestnut Mtn., and the relic Hales Bar Dam. Folks from Rock/Creek will host a brief winter paddling seminar and gear demonstration. Cost is $65 per person and includes all gear, guides, lunch, snacks, beverages, and transportation. Therapeutic Recreation’s Basketball Team Placed in top 3 at last week’s Area 4 Special Olympics
Basketball Tournament held at UTC. This was their first tournament experience and they won second place! Special thanks to Evelyn Snorton and Ricardo Jones from North Chattanooga Rec. Center who helped TR coordinators Elaine Adams and Lizzy Hockinson coach and prepare the team. Adaptive basketball for individuals with cognitive disabilities is provided at North Chattanooga Rec. Center on Monday evenings.

Registration is open for Camp ZooAbility, a week-long Day Camp held at the Chattanooga Zoo for individuals who have cognitive and/or physical disabilities. Siblings are welcome to attend. Swimming, arts & crafts, music, animal enrichment, and sports. The cost is $75 per week per person. May 24-28: Ages 21 & Up; June 28-July 2: Ages 6-12 and July 12-16: Ages 13-20. Lane Closures On MLK Boulevard Announced For Wednesday

Man Tells Police He Just Murdered His Wife

A Chattanooga man told police Monday night that he had just murdered his wife.  Police said Robert Lee Hardnett, 50. showed up at the County Jail to turn himself in at 8:40 p.m. He said his wife's body could be found at his place of employment, Power Supply Company, 1907 Daisy St.   Officers responded to that address and found the body of 34-year-old Elizabeth ... Red Bank Commissioners Choose Kenneth Welch To Replace Greg Jones; Jeno Won't Run Again

The four remaining members of the Red Bank Commission held a special called meeting on Tuesday and chose Kenneth Welch as the replacement for Vice Mayor Greg Jones, who moved to Alaska. At the same meeting, Commissioner Ruth Jeno announced she will not seek a new term. She urged the candidates who were not selected - Michael Tindle and Eddie Pierce - to run in the next election. ...
