"St. PAWtrick's Day" Dog Walk And Costume Parade Is Saturday

Tuesday, March 09, 2010

The “DOGood Chattanooga,” citizens for a dog-friendly Chattanooga, are hosting a free special event, “St. PAWtrick’s Day Dog Walk” for dogs and their owners this Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. to noon at Ross' Landing.

Organizers said, "Dog owners are invited to wear the green, dress your dog, and promote being green, as the Chattanooga Parks and Recreation Department and this volunteer group partner to raise awareness for responsible pet practices at the downtown riverfront and throughout the city."

The St. PAWtrick’s Dog and Owners Walk will commence from the Pier at Ross' Landing and proceed along Riverfront Parkway on the sidewalk toward the Hunter Museum by way of the Riverwalk, the zig-zag sidewalk, and in front of the Hunter Museum. The parade/walk will return back to Ross' Landing by way of the First Street pedestrian corridor, around the aquarium on Second Street, then back down Chestnut Street to the pier.
All participants need to bring their clean-up bags.

Costume Contest: Treats and give-aways for the best “St. PAWtrick's” dog outfit.

Bring Home a Friend: McKamey Animal and Pet Adoption Center volunteers and staff will be bringing seven adoptable dogs to participate in the parade. These dogs will available for adoption and interested prospective pet owners can go to McKamey after the walk and take care of the paper work, etc.

Volunteer for a Dog Friendly Chattanooga: DOGood Chattanooga is looking for other pet owners who walk and live downtown to join this campaign. Volunteers are needed to take the DOGood Pledge, put the group's new green bandanas on their dogs, serve as friendly ambassadors, and help remind other dog walkers in the downtown the importance of cleaning up pet waste and observing the city's leash and licensing laws. Information about such requirements will be available at the event, is already on the city’s web-site under the Parks Heading.

Interested volunteers or supporters can purchase DOGood Chattanooga T-shirts for $8 each with proceeds going to provide promotional materials for the group’s city-wide awareness raising effort. Volunteers can take the DOGood Chattanooga Pledge at this event and get a neon green bandana for their dog to wear showing that he/she/it is a good canine citizen.

Thoughts On The Mathews Sentencing

It is not by coincidence I haven’t submitted an opinion piece in some time to the Chattanoogan.  The topics I cover are generally vitriolic in regards to local political decisions and their makers regarding public safety and I do not wish to associate my name with more noble subjects such as that of the heroic death and cowardly murder of Chattanooga Police Sergeant Tim Chapin, ... Thank You, Judge Mattice And Chattanooga

I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews.  Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin.   A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.  That's what Sgt. Chapin would have wanted.  He was a protector and sacrificed his life so the rest of ... (click for more)
