17 Candidates Running For 5 School Board Seats

Seventeen candidates have qualified for five open County School Board races.

Incumbent Jeffrey Wilson is unopposed in District 5.

But District 3 incumbent Everett Fairchild of Hixson has opposition from Marty Haynes, Tom Westendorf and Ken R. Smith.

Joe Galloway and Gary Patterson are contenders to replacing the retiring Janice Boydston in District 5. Ms. Boydston endorsed Mr. Galloway, former Lookout Valley High School principal who still coaches at the school.

Four candidates are on the ballot in District 8 - with incumbent Kenny Smith choosing to run for the County Commission being vacated by Curtis Adams. They are Dean Arnold, David Testerman, Andrew Mullins and Kevin Wright. Commissioner Adams has endorsed Mr. Testerman, former county school principal.

With Chester Bankston running for the County Commission also, seven candidates are going for his District 9 seat. They are Caleb Long, Mike Evatt, Karen Farrow, Gary D. Potter, Marchetta S. Cannon and Timothy T. Stephenson.

The election is Aug. 5.
