James Sherrell, 89, of Chattanooga, died on Thursday, April 8, 2010, in a local health care facility.
James was a member of White Oak Baptist Church and a member of East Lake Masonic Lodge 698 F&AM. He was a survivor of the bombing of Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941 serving on the USS San Francisco. He was a retired gas plant operator.
Survivors include his wife, Irene Chambless Sherrell; daughters, Linda Sherrell Compton of Louisville, Ky., Judy Sherrell Meeks and husband, John, of Chattanooga, Kristie Sherrell, of Midland, Mi.; son, James Michael Sherrell and wife, Myra, of Knoxville; sister, Effie Sherrell Romans Waters, of LaFayette, Ga.; brothers, Dewey Sherrell, of Jackson County, Al., and John Henry Sherrell, of Woodville, Al.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 10, at Lane Funeral Home with the Rev. Tony Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Scottsboro, Al.
His grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.
