Chattanooga Zoo Hosts Party For The Planet

Friday, April 09, 2010

The Chattanooga Zoo will host its annual Party for the Planet celebration on April 17 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Zoo’s
location in Warner Park. This year’s event is sponsored by Economy Honda
Superstore.

Party for the Planet is a national initiative of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and is celebrated by more than 150 AZA-accredited zoos and
aquariums around the country. Guests will be a hero for the planet with
Spider-Man and learn about the environment with fun activities for both children and adults. Booths will be set-up throughout the Zoo with
information about outdoor activities, making sound environmental decisions
and protecting wildlife.

“Party for the Planet is great because it allows us to help educate visitors on what they can do to help protect our Earth and its wildlife in their own backyard,” said Zoo Executive Director Darde Long. “Aside from the learning experience, visitors will get to meet our animal ambassadors who benefit from these small changes we make to our environment.”

DoubleTree Hotel will have its CARE Committee on-site to play fun and
interactive recycling games with young participants. Other vendors include Outdoor Chattanooga, Chik-Fil-A, McKamey Animal Shelter, Chattanooga Nature Center, Tennessee Aquarium, Scenic Cities, Cat Clinic of Chattanooga, Chattanooga Electric Bikes and Chatt Town Scooters.

Economy Honda will also be at the event to educate guests about hybrid
vehicles and to show off the Zoo's newly acquired 2010 Honda Insight hybrid electric vehicle.

“We are proud to be a part of Honda’s commitment to providing
environmentally responsible vehicles and to share in providing the
Chattanooga Zoo with one of Honda’s latest hybrid vehicles,” said Monta
Burney, sales manager for Economy Honda. “The 2010 Honda Insight was made with the purpose of making hybrid technology accessible to a greater number of people. With its great fuel economy, practicality and affordability, it is a smart choice for anyone looking to conserve resources and lessen our impact on the environment.”

Zoo members receive free admission to this event and must present their
membership card at the Zoo entrance. Non-members will get in at regular Zoo
admission. For more information call 697.1319 or visit www.chattzoo.org.

Thank You, Judge Mattice And Chattanooga

I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews.  Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin.   A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.  That's what Sgt. Chapin would have wanted.  He was a protector and sacrificed his life so the rest of ... (click for more)
