Repairs to the sinkhole on easbound Interstate 24 at the Grundy County line have been completed, TDOT officials announced Saturday morning.
I-24 east was reopened to traffic at approximately 6:50 a.m. EDT/5:50 CDT.
The large sinkhole opened up in the eastbound lanes at around 8 a.m. Tuesday.
TDOT had awarded a $266,960 emergency contract to Highways, Inc. the same day at 3:30 p.m. to repair the damaged section of I-24 immediately.
The sinkhole was estimated to be 25 feet wide and 25 feet deep.
While the work was underway, traffic was detoured off I-24 at exit 114 to Highway 41, then to State Route 50 and back onto I-24 at exit 127.
