2nd Edition of TasteBuds Comes Out Friday

Monday, May 24, 2010

Crabtree Farms will hand out free printed copies of the 2nd edition of the TasteBuds Local Food Guide on Friday at 2 p.m.

The release events begin with a 20-minute press conference, immediately followed by a celebration with live music and samplings of local food.

The public is invited to join the TasteBuds local food partners at Crabtree Farms. The release celebration continues at the Chattanooga Market on Saturday and Sunday from 11-4 p.m. Festivities will end at the Main Street Farmers’ Market on Wednesday, June 2, from 4-6 p.m.

TasteBuds, Chattanooga’s local food guide, was introduced last year to encourage consumers to connect with local food produced in a 100-mile radius of the city. This printed guide to locally-grown and locally-produced foods is a 32-page full-color publication.

This year, TasteBuds contains over 160 local listings for organizations that produce or support local food, such as: farms, restaurants, wineries, breweries, community gardens, groceries, resource organizations and hand-crafted food artisans.

The TasteBuds website contains the same information as the printed TasteBuds Local Food Guide in an online format: www.tastebudsguide.org.

In an effort to further support local businesses, Crabtree Farms used many local printers and vendors for the TasteBuds printed guide, website and collateral. TasteBuds is printed on FSC Certified Paper.

TasteBuds is made possible by funding from the Benwood Foundation and support from Gaining Ground. Gaining Ground is helping develop a sustainable and distinctively-Chattanoogan foodscape through grants, coordinated efforts and public awareness. Commissioned by the Benwood Foundation to help increase production and consumption of local food, Gaining Ground is helping the region view food in new ways.

"TasteBuds is an important tool in helping increase public awareness about where food is grown locally and where consumers can go to purchase local food and local food products," says Jeff Pfitzer, program director of Gaining Ground.

Thank You, Judge Mattice And Chattanooga

I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews.  Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin.   A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.  That's what Sgt. Chapin would have wanted.  He was a protector and sacrificed his life so the rest of ... (click for more)
