A fire on Friday morning on Harrison Pike caused extensive damage to the home and injured two firefighters.
One firefighter was treated and released from a local hospital for heat exhaustion. The other firefighter injured an ankle when his foot fell through part of the burned out floor.
The Chattanooga Fire Department received the alarm at 9:15 a.m. and responded to 2426 Harrison Pike with four fire companies. Captain Carlos Hampton with Engine 4 said the initial report was that smoke was showing from the double-wide mobile home, but when they arrived on the scene, flames were shooting out the windows.
Chattanooga firefighters forced their way inside the house and quickly conducted a primary search, but did not find anyone inside. In the meantime, the firefighters worked to get the blaze under control. The fire had penetrated into the walls and ceiling, making it more difficult for the firefighters to get the fire out.
The fire damage to the structure was substantial, although an estimate on the dollar loss was not available.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Lieutenant Anthony Moore with the Fire Investigation Division said the dollar loss is estimated at $95,000 for the building and its contents.
The residents, who were not home at the time, include two adults and three children. Volunteers with the American Red Cross were called in to provide recovery assistance to the family.
