Couple Bungles Dollar General Robbery

Wednesday, June 2, 2010

A couple is held at the County Jail after bungling a Dollar General Store robbery on Memorial Day.

Police arrested Doyle Ray Henderson, 66, of Canton, Ga., and Evelyn Bolton Brown, 49, of 191 W. Ridgewood Ave., Chattanooga.

They were charged with aggravated robbery and criminal conspiracy.

Police said they were caught not far from the store they tried to rob at 4860 Hixson Pike.

Officers said the pair went in Ms. Brown's 1991 Buick to the store, and she parked it in the rear. Henderson went inside armed with a 45-caliber pistol.

He displayed the gun and demanded cash, but "was unsuccessful in getting any money."

Witnesses followed the couple out of the parking lot to the Physicians Care parking lot at 4490 Hixson Pike, where they were both arrested.

The pistol was recovered from a ditch. Clothing worn during the holdup was also recovered.

Ms. Brown admitted they had cased the store earlier in the day. She said she covered her license plate with duct tape.

They are due to appear in General Sessions Court on June 15.
