No injuries were reported in connection with a house fire on Monday morning in Hixson.
The Chattanooga Fire Department received the alarm at 6:43 a.m. and responded to 5412 May Circle with five fire companies. Battalion Chief Rick Sewell said most of the fire was in the attached garage, and was beginning to spread into the house.
The firefighters were able to get the blaze under control fairly quickly, limiting the fire damage to the garage and the kitchen. However, there was significant smoke and water damage to the rest of the house. The loss was estimated at $80,000 to $100,000.
Chief Sewell said the residents evidently tried to put the fire out themselves before calling 911.
Chief Sewell said the cause of the fire is being ruled accidental, most likely from a malfunctioning window air conditioner in the garage.
