The Homebuilders Association has requested a meeting with county officials Dan Wade and Pat Payne to express concerns about actions of county building inspectors.
The session will be at the Development Resource Center on Thursday at 2 p.m.
Jay Bell of Bell Development said he had been having problems with the county building inspection department and checked with Teresa Groves of the Homebuilders Association about a meeting on the subject. He said Ms. Groves called back to say that a large number of homebuilders had similar concerns and would be at the meeting.
Mr. Bell said, "Everybody thought they were just being singled out, but we find that all of us have been having these horrendous experiences with the county inspectors."
He said the conflicts between the builders and the county inspectors "have developed into an actual adversarial relationship on almost every level."
Mr. Bell said it has led to numerous work stoppages "and it is costing all homebuilders just a tremendous amount of money."
On the other hand, he said city of Chattanooga inspectors "have as smooth an operation as you can imagine. With the total cooperation there it is completely opposite from what we get at the county."
Mr. Bell said he expects as many as 100 people at the meeting from the homebuilding group. He said, "That is unusual because it is very uncommon for homebuilders to come together."
Dan Wade is the county public works administrator and Pat Payne is the county building inspector.
