The Bradley County Mayor’s Office has applied for and received a $500,000 home grant from the Tennessee Housing Development Agency. The $500,000 grant does not require any matching funds from the county and will be administered by the Southeast Tennessee Development District on the County’s behalf.
The SETDD has been accepting applications since March. To ensure that as many qualified homeowners as possible have an opportunity to benefit from the grant, County Mayor Gary Davis has extended the application deadline until Aug. 16.
The program, known as the Bradley County Home Housing Rehabilitation Project, is designed for owner-occupied, dilapidated houses with the goal of bringing the structure up to the local building code. Qualified families or individuals receive the funds as a forgivable grant. If an existing house is so dilapidated that it is not economically feasible to repair, a new house may be "reconstructed” on the same site. Reconstruction is considered rehabilitation under the federal HOME regulations.
