Premier Of Greening Of Southie Is Aug. 5

Monday, July 26, 2010

The Chattanooga premier of the Greening of Southie will be on Aug. 5 at 6 p.m. at green|spaces.

Filmmaker Ian Cheney will be at the screening. There will also be a reception with food and beer from Big River.

Review for the film:
In the traditionally Irish-American working-class neighborhood of South Boston, Ma., a new kind of building has taken shape. From wheatboard cabinetry to recycled steel, bamboo flooring to dual-flush toilets, the Macallen building is something different: a leader in the emerging field of environmentally friendly design.

But Boston's steel-toed union workers aren't sure they like it. And when things on the building start to go wrong, the young developer has to keep the project from unraveling.
Building Boston's first LEED Gold-certified building turns out to be harder than anyone thought. Yet among the I-beams and brickwork emerges a small cadre of unlikely environmentalists who come to connect their work with the future of their children and the future of our cities.

Peabody-winning New York filmmaker Ian Cheney will attend the Chattanooga premiere of his feature-length documentary The Greening of Southie and answer audience questions.

Director and editor Ian Cheney was launched into the spotlight with his 2007 hit documentary King Corn, which was released theatrically in over 50 U.S. cities, nominated for the Environmental Media Awards, and broadcast nationally on PBS Independent Lens.

Ian is currently in post-production on a film about tri-racial isolates in Appalachia entitled Melungeons, and is in production on a documentary about light pollution entitled The City Dark.

Tickets to see The Greening of Southie with special guest Ian Cheney are $10 per person or $5 for AEC donors, and include a reception with food and drinks from Big River Grille. We Are Blessed To Have Ron Littlefield As Our Mayor - And Response (2)

Chattanooga is blessed beyond measure to have Ron Littlefield as our mayor.  It is a total travesty our city has had to endure the long frivolous battle with absolutely  no foundation other than disagreement with policy issues.  It has always been a vendetta directed personally at Mayor Littlefield which, if the "interveners" decide to appeal, will be a proven fact.   ...
